Once upon a time, Australia had a flying doctor service designed to bring medicines and medics to remote farms and small towns in the outback. For all I know it still exists. These phenomenal drones when connected to local and even transnational networks are destined to play a huge role in rural development programmes across the globe and, in so doing could stabilise human migratory patterns. I hope like hell China has patented these beauty’s.

This would be revolutionary in the Andes, where in many areas "you can't get there from here" is really true. We have a house in Paruro, a provincial capital only 30 miles in a straight line from Cusco, but there are no straight lines there. The trip is around an hour and a half (3+ hours prior to paving the road) and over 100 kilometers, and the road suffers frequent landslides in the rainy season which can close it for days. That's a provincial capital, for somewhere really off the beaten path it can be days and may not even be possible for much of the year.
