Similar problems in UK. World University Rankings reports: The latest Universities UK data reveals a 37% decrease in undergraduate applications from China for the 2024 entry cycle compared to the previous year, dropping from 31,400 to 19,680 applications.

I saw this first hand some years back at the Australian National University. An entire university sector was dependent on full-fee paying Chinese students, confident that their institutional prestige would carry the day—until one day it didn’t. The Australian sector was entirely unprepared for the loss of revenue and even less so for the loss of student talent.
